Grace, a Henley Business School student, shares her experience of being on placement at Travelport:
“In July 2016 I joined the Corporate FP&R team at Travelport, Langley, and was thrown straight in to the budget process, creating presentations for the Board and Senior Leadership Team. I ran a daily tracker monitoring the changes in the year’s forecast, as well as updating a file each week containing detailed analysis of the company’s metrics.
At present I am responsible for monitoring the performance of the regional teams and central functions, comparing it to budget and updating their forecasts. I then build a consolidated view of the company’s forecast as a whole. I am now preparing for the next budget process, creating budget books for each regional team and central function which will be used as part of the budget review and sign-off process.
Additional activities that I have taken part in include writing a proposal which was sent to the Legal Team, representing Travelport at Henley Business School’s placement fair, and training colleagues in the use of FMR. The interns have raised over £10,000 this year for charity, and I have also taken part in the Intern Assessment Day for the ‘new recruits’; both of which are experiences especially valuable to me.
My placement at Travelport has taught me a number of skills beneficial to a career in finance, including the ability to analyse and present figures, commentate on financial performance, and the use of Cognos. Developing these skills and networking with people in the industry has increased my confidence in my ability to achieve my goals in my graduate career.
