Danya, a Business and Management undergraduate, reflects of her placement:
“Finding a placement is an extremely daunting process, I had many interviews and not much luck to begin with, but I found that patience and perseverance is key. Don’t sit around and expect something to fall into your lap, be pro-active – follow up on interviews and ask for feedback from employers in order to improve for next time. Take advantage of the support that the Henley Placement Team offer, being knocked back a few times can be disappointing but they are there to help keep you motivated!
I was unsure which area of business I wanted to go into, so applied for a variety of roles and obtained a Digital Marketing Coordinator role with Ricoh UK. Being on placement has provided me with real life experience in a formal working environment, allowing me to put my knowledge into practise. I attained and progressed many new and existing skills, but most importantly I realised where my weaknesses lie and have since been working hard to improve on these (an Excel course was definitely needed for me!). After 11 months of working for a global company and being given a lot of independent responsibility, I now feel much more confident about my future career and prepared for the opportunities that lie ahead. Marketing is definitely an area I would consider as a career choice now. I was even offered a part-time role with the company for my final year of study, which shows just how many doors a placement year can open!
