The many different jobs in finance

Ella has just finished her undergraduate placement year – here are here reflections:

“After completing over a year working at Johnson and Johnson on placement I can honestly say it has been one of the best experiences that I have ever had. The year has allowed me to experience what it’s like to work within a global company and see the many different aspects that are involved in making the company so successful. Additionally, it has opened my eyes to all the many different jobs that are around in finance and the many career paths I can go down.

Furthermore, I gained and developed numerous skills that will help me in my final year and in my future. Starting my placement, I had very limited skills in excel however by the end of the year I was able to make interactive reports from scratch and improve analytical capabilities. As well as that I improved my communication skills due to having to interact with colleagues in my own department and other offices to ensure the information I relayed was in a clear and concise manner.

Even though a placement year developed my career it also provided me with a social aspect too. I became a member of the social committee, which helped me meet lots of new people and I also was involved in creating amazing events for the rest of my colleagues. So, all in all a placement year is definitely an extremely beneficial year to have and I would recommend it to anyone interested in doing one.
